The insmod command

Inserts a specific module from its .ko file, without resolving dependencies.

Syntax

insmod <archivo.ko>

Copy-ready examples

$ insmod /lib/modules/6.8.0/kernel/fs/overlay.koInsert a .ko

You can try them in the browser terminal: it does not touch your computer.

Typical mistakes

  • It fails if the module depends on another that is not loaded; that is what modprobe is for.
