The time command

Runs a command and tells you how long it took (real, user and system).

Syntax

time <comando>

Copy-ready examples

$ time echo holaTime a command

You can try them in the browser terminal: it does not touch your computer.

Typical mistakes

  • Real time includes waiting; user and sys are the CPU work.
