All available categories
The converter covers 9 categories with more than 80 units in total. Length includes from nanometres to light years. Mass goes from micrograms to long tons. Temperature converts between Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine. Area covers from square millimetres to square miles and acres. Volume includes metric and imperial units, with cups, pints and gallons from both systems. Speed ranges from metres per second to Mach and the speed of light. Digital storage differentiates between SI and binary units (KB/KiB, MB/MiB, GB/GiB). Time goes from nanoseconds to centuries. Pressure includes Pascal, Bar, PSI, atmospheres and mmHg.
All calculations are performed using floating-point arithmetic in the browser. For linear units, a conversion factor to a base unit (metre, kilogram, etc.) is used and then divided by the target unit's factor. For temperature, which is not linear, exact algebraic formulas are used.
Frequently asked questions
How many units does the converter include?
More than 80 units across 9 categories: length (12), mass (10), temperature (4), area (10), volume (13), speed (7), digital storage (13), time (12) and pressure (8).
How accurate is the temperature conversion?
It uses exact formulas. Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. Celsius to Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15.
Can I convert from kilometres to miles directly?
Yes. Select 'Length', choose 'Kilometre' as source and 'Mile' as target. 1 km = 0.621371 miles.
What is the difference between GB and GiB?
A Gigabyte (GB) is 1,000,000,000 bytes (powers of 10). A Gibibyte (GiB) is 1,073,741,824 bytes (powers of 2).
Is any data sent to a server?
No. All calculation happens in your browser with pure JavaScript. There are no network requests.
