How to use the word counter?

  1. 1

    Paste or type your text

Copy any text from Word, Google Docs, an email, a webpage or any other source and paste it into the text area. You can also type directly. Analysis starts instantly, with no need to press any button.

  2. 2

    Check the main metrics

In real time you will see the number of words, total characters, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and unique words. These metrics update with every keystroke.

  3. 3

    Check reading and speaking time

The counter automatically calculates estimated reading time (at 200 words per minute, the average adult reading speed) and speaking time (at 130 words per minute, average public speaking speed).

  4. 4

    Analyse keyword density

The most frequent words section shows the top 5 words repeated in your text, automatically filtering out stop words (articles, prepositions, conjunctions). Very useful for optimising texts for SEO.

Frequently asked questions

What is a word counter used for?

A word counter is useful in many situations: writing articles with a word limit, preparing speeches or presentations, optimising texts for SEO, meeting academic assignment requirements, calculating how long an audience will take to read or hear a piece of content, or simply getting precise statistics about a text.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time is calculated by dividing the number of words by 200, which is the average silent reading speed for an adult. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, which corresponds to a comfortable pace for public speaking or recording a podcast. Both figures are average estimates and may vary depending on the complexity of the text.

What are unique words?

Unique words are the number of distinct words that appear in the text, not counting repetitions. A high ratio of unique words to total words indicates varied and rich vocabulary, while a low ratio may indicate excessive repetition.

Is the data saved or sent to any server?

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser. No text or data is sent to any server. You can use this tool with complete privacy, even with confidential content.

Does it work in Spanish and English?

Yes. The stop word filter works in both Spanish and English, so keyword analysis is accurate in both languages. Word, character and time metrics are language-independent.
