The lvcreate command

Creates a logical volume (LV) inside a group, like a flexible partition.

Syntax

sudo lvcreate -L <tamaño> -n <nombre> <grupo>

Most useful options

-LSize (e.g. 4G)
-nVolume name
-lSize in percent (100%FREE)

Copy-ready examples

$ sudo pvcreate /dev/sdbPV
$ sudo vgcreate datos /dev/sdbVG
$ sudo lvcreate -L 2G -n web datosCreate the LV

Typical mistakes

  • The LV lives at /dev/group/name and is formatted with mkfs.
