Why does the Pomodoro technique work?
The Pomodoro technique leverages the psychological principle that our brain works best in bursts of intense focus followed by rest. The 25-minute intervals are short enough to maintain urgency and avoid procrastination, but long enough to make real progress on any task.
Mandatory breaks prevent mental fatigue and help consolidate information learned. The cycle of 4 pomodoros before the long break allows working in significant blocks of approximately 2 hours with maximum efficiency. Over time, the technique also helps better estimate how long tasks take.
This Pomodoro timer implements the classic cycle: 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of short break, and every 4 cycles a 15-minute long break. The durations are fully customizable from the settings panel to adapt to your personal work rhythm.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Pomodoro technique?
It consists of dividing work into 25-minute intervals separated by 5-minute breaks. Every 4 intervals, a long break of 15 to 30 minutes is taken to improve focus and prevent mental fatigue.
Can I change the timer duration?
Yes. Click the settings icon to change the work, short break and long break durations independently (1-90 minutes each).
How do browser notifications work?
When enabled, the browser sends a system notification when each session ends, even if another tab is active.
Where does the sound come from?
It is generated with the Web Audio API using a sine wave oscillator. There are no audio files: the sound is synthesized in real time, so it works 100% offline.
Are my statistics saved between sessions?
Statistics are stored in the current tab's memory. They reset when you close or reload the page.
